Instead of having a Black Friday we have a Black Thursday, and in some cases even Black Wednesday...Hell, most stores were already airing Christmas shopping commercials back in October.
So what has Christmas become???
It seems to me that Christmas is no longer about spending time with your family or even the celebration of Christ's birthday, but rather more a holiday for consumerism!
People are simply more concerned with things! I'm not going to lie, I love to shop as much as the next girl! Maybe even a little too much at times! However, I find it troublesome that people are going as far as even going to shop for Christmas gifts the day of Thanksgiving! What's even worse is that many of the big retail giants are promoting these "Black Thursday" sales shamelessly!
Lest we not forget about the numerous employees who work at these retail stores! These people are losing precious time with their families just so the public can get their so called "Christmas" fix!
It's a sad day and age when materials become more important than people! After all you can't take any of it with you when you die...
Some food for thought folks....these are worldly possessions and when our lives are over the only thing we can take with us are the good deeds we did in life or the lack of!
So please value your family...spend as much time as you can with them and cherish them!
One of the best quotes that illustrates the idea that Christmas is about more than the materials we receive, is none other than the following:
“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,
stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
